About Steteco

The Steteco was invented in the Meiji period to wear under a kimono or hakama. Even after Western-style clothes became widespread, steteco remained an integral part of everyday wear among the Japanese. The men would put on steteco under the trousers or as loungewear after taking a bath. Steteco's design is perfect for Japan's hot and humid weather, and has long been cherished as functional underwear that was born as a result of history. It is precisely the distinct seasonal changes in Japan that gave birth to steteco, reflecting the uniqueness of Japanese sensibilities. Since the ancient times, they have taken in the beauty and trials of the nature that surrounds them into their everyday lives. Although it was a common item for the summer season, in recent years, steteco has sadly come to be regarded as “tacky” and “passé.” Somehow, it has become a thing of the past.
Steteco keeps you dry, getting rid of that sweaty and sticky feeling from perspiration. It protects your favorite suits too. At home you simply undress down to your steteco and relax.

About steteco.com

To revive the degenerated culture of steteco and offer innovative products that builds on its heritage, as Corporation launched steteco.com as a project that centers on the concept of Steteco Research Lab. The company is a manufacturer that takes pride in its expert craft of making underwear and “relaxing wear” for the last 70 years, of which 50 years are attributed to the development of steteco, a mainstay summer product. Its launch of steteco.com in 2008 has occasioned a reappraisal of steteco in Japan, drawing attention once again to its comfort. In particular, the print steteco series -- extremely popular among the steteco.com products -- has reversed the prevailing negative image of steteco. In addition to the standard way of wearing them under the trousers, steteco has now reemerged as a new type of “relaxing wear” for Japanese people today of all ages and gender.

Our Craftmanship

The bumpy texture in our steteco's fabric is a traditional Japanese material that is known as “crepe” or chijimi. Steteco is a product born in Japan. In a time when outsourcing production overseas continues to increase, steteco.com remains steadfast to the principle of “Made in Japan” to deliver true comfort and quality. Guided by this thinking, we continue to develop our product line-up.
